Description:
Our client, a leading multinational corporation in the retail sector, is embarking on a strategic initiative to
modernize their infrastructure leveraging VMware technologies. The project aims to enhance virtualization
capabilities, optimize data storage, and strengthen backup and recovery processes.
Role and Responsibilities of the Storage & Backup Engineer:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement VMware-based virtualizationsolutions, ensuring seamless integration and minimal disruption to operations.
- Lead the configuration and optimization of VMware storage solutions, such as VMware vSAN andVMware Storage Policy-Based Management (SPBM), to meet the organization's requirements.
- Develop and implement backup and recovery policies and procedures tailored to VMwareenvironments, leveraging technologies like VMware Data Protection (VDP) or Veeam Backup &Replication.
- Coordinate with internal technical experts and external vendors to execute operational activities including capacity planning, system upgrades, and security assessments specific to VMware deployments.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on VMware storage and backup best practices, ensuringalignment with industry standards and compliance requirements.
- Conduct regular performance monitoring and analysis to identify opportunities for optimization andimprovement in VMware storage and backup infrastructure.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity specialists to integrate robust security measures, such as VMwareNSX-T Data Center, into the VMware environment to protect against threats and unauthorized access.
- Prepare and deliver periodic reports to stakeholders, highlighting key performance metrics, projectmilestones, and risks/mitigation strategies related to VMware technologies.
Additional Requirements:
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerCLI) for automation and orchestration tasks withinVMware environments.
- Experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter Server, and other VMware management tools.
- Familiarity with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and VMware Cloud on AWS for hybrid clouddeployments.
- Strong understanding of VMware storage concepts, including Virtual Machine File System (VMFS) andNetwork File System (NFS) datastores.
- Knowledge of VMware backup and recovery solutions, including image-level and applicationconsistent backups.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a remote, cross-functionalteam environment.
