In January 2019, tech consultants Gartner announced their first Magic Quadrant for Cloud Management Platforms, (CMP) naming ServiceNow as a ‘niche player’ and one of only nine vendors within the quadrant. Their report recognizes that today’s enterprises are seeking improved ways to optimize their cloud infrastructure and identifies which platforms it believes will be most effective in supporting them to achieve that goal.
This the first time that Gartner has created a CMP Magic Quadrant, therefore the criteria is expected to evolve. The requirements for consideration currently include the ability to:
Support Amazon Web Services (AWS) Microsoft Azure and private cloud deployments.
Provide CMP functions alongside data including the number of customers and revenue.
It also helps get more praise on ServiceNow, which has spent five consecutive years (and is aiming for a sixth in 2019) as a Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for IT Service Management Tools. The company’s ‘completeness of vision and ability to execute’ are regarded as fundamental to its success.
ServiceNow – shaping demand for talent:
What does this seemingly unstoppable success mean for hiring processes and the companies dependent on ServiceNow talent?
Over 5,000 organizations - and counting - use ServiceNow’s PaaS (Platform as a Service) and the demand for professionals with ServiceNow skills is leaving the talent pool struggling to keep up. 75% of Fortune 500 companies also depend on the brand’s Now Platform®
Software is shaping demand for talent:
Due to the rapid growth of its IT platform, we are seeing unprecedented job openings for ServiceNow Developers, Architects, Implementation Specialists, SMEs (Service Matter Experts) and Project Managers.
At Glocomms, that specialist demand also encompasses specific ServiceNow skills including CMDB, Service Mapping, Discovery, Asset Management, PPM, GRC & SecOps, HR Module implementation, and Service Catalog to enable Digital Transformation.
Traditional recruitment methods aren’t effective in attracting ServiceNow talent. Hiring processes demand innovation to attract the qualified candidates into these roles and competition can be aggressive.
Our advice is:
Look beyond the obvious talent management strategies :
In their efforts to attract skilled ServiceNow professionals, employers are overhauling outdated recruitment strategies and exploring alternative talent pools such as the gig economy.
Create a seamless employee experience
Acknowledge expectations of the future workforce by creating a culture that offers a seamless consumer-like employee experience. Combined with an innovative approach to recruitment, it may prove to be the key to your organization’s ability to attract candidates with scarce ServiceNow skills.
Prepare for Generation Z
That employee experience includes adapting to the demands and expectations of the ‘mobile only’ assumptions of Generation Z. This upcoming talent pool takes for granted the ability to work in any place at any time and looks for intuitive tools to support them in doing just that.
Pay the market rate
The average annual salary for a ServiceNow Developer is c$105k depending on experience and location. But it’s not just a matter of raising your pay grades. ServiceNow talent know their market worth but look for more in an employer – and that begins with a flawless candidate experience. Consult with a specialist head-hunter with the connections and expertise in the ServiceNow niche to evaluate exactly what your organization needs to offer to attract qualified candidates.
Matt Batchelor, Vice President of Glocomms Contracts, comments "Given the number of new ServiceNow releases, version upgrades and module implementations taking place most companies are finding it hard to attract top tier ServiceNow talent.
We’ve spent several months talent tracking the best ServiceNow Consultants enabling us to give you better access to a pipeline of ServiceNow Developers, Architects and Implementation specialists.
Our key strengths are in providing ServiceNow Consultants on an interim, project specific or contract staffing basis and we have a great network to work within."
